The United States on Saturday wished to fully cooperate with Pakistan in the investigation of the Quetta Police Training Academy attack which left 62 police officers dead and injured more than 100 officers.

An investigation committee has initiated a probe into the deadly incident after taking weapons and ammunitions, terrorists used in the attack, into their custody from the wreckage of the sprawling academy.

US State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner, in a press briefing, said that the country is deeply saddened by the attack on the police training centre.

He said that the investigation of the attack is in initial stages.

“It will be premature to say that which elements are behind the attack,” Toner said.

“Islamic State (IS) has started to operate in the different regions of the world,” he added.

“It is no surprise that IS may be operating in Afghanistan,” the spokesman said.

Toner said that the United States will continue to take actions across the world for targeting the senior leadership of Islamic State.
