The Sindh Industrial and Trading Estates (SITE) Limited is facing an acute financial crisis as companies are seemingly reluctant to pay their outstanding dues summing up to at least Rs 30 million. Sources told Pakistan Today that the SITE officials have decided to take strict action against the defaulters for smoothly running the financial matters of the industries body as the Rs 30 million dues been pending with these utilities and institutions for the past couple of years.
Government and private organisations, including Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Sindh Food Department, have not paid their outstanding dues of at least Rs 30 million. The SITE management has given the last warning to the defaulters, asking them to clear their dues within a period of one month otherwise strict legal action would be initiated.
SITE Managing Director Abdul Rasheed Solangi has also constituted a committee – comprising Sukkur estate engineer, senior security officer, superintendent officer and accounts officer – for the recovery of the dues that would hold negotiations with the defaulting government organisations. Another committee comprising Sukkur assistant engineer, security officer, accounts and administration officers would hold talks with the defaulting private organisations.
These committees have been instructed to prepare daily reports about the progress of their negotiations with the defaulters and submit the final report to the SITE head office within a week. Meanwhile, according to a press release issued by SITE, Solangi also visited the Sukkur Estate on Thursday where he was briefed by the finance department officials about recovery and status of the dues. The SITE managing director appealed that the private organisations and industrialists clear their outstanding dues for the continuation of developmental projects and warned of taking legal action against the defaulters, if they failed to clear their dues within a month.
