In another mass heist at MA Jinnah road, robbers took away cash and valuables worth Rs 4 million from 40 shops.

According to reports, robbers broke into the shops of the Jami Centre at 2 AM on Thursday. Four unidentified men first held the watchman hostage and then broke into the shops, a shopkeeper told a local TV channel.

“We were shocked to see our shops looted when we arrived at work this morning,” a shopkeeper said, adding that they did not have CCTV cameras installed inside the market.

Such mass heists have been on the rise and similar incidents have occurred in Urdu bazaar, plaza and Empress market – all situated in the old city area.

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested the ringleader of a dacoit group involved in a number of robberies. Weapons and stolen goods were also recovered from his possession.

According to a statement issued by police in Al-Falah jurisdiction, the arrested man, identified as Rehan, confessed to being the head of a twelve-member group involved in a number of thefts at different markets.
