SC dismisses Dasu Dam petition

The supreme court of Pakistan dismissed the application regarding Dasu Dam, registered by M/s Power Construction Corporation of China.

A three member bench comprising Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed heard the case.

The counsel for Power Construction Corporation of China, Suleman Butt, informed the court that the World Bank was aware of all sort of matters, adding that Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) had said that the clash was an internal matter, and the World Bank had no concern in this matter.

Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed remarked that World Bank was not party to the present case. He said it is a state responsibility to award contracts transparently.

Additional Attorney General (AAG), Rana Waqar, informed the court that under the presidential ordinance of 1960, the government has full right to award contracts.

He informed the court that the government had inked an agreement with the International Development Agency (IDA).

The counsel for WAPDA informed the court that World Bank had loaned 58 percent of the cost of the project, and if the World Bank’s requirements were not fulfilled, the loans could be repealed.

He added that the Chinese company had already been disqualified.
