Sheikh Ahsan-ud-Din, a senior lawyer has claimed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s close allies have advised him to appoint the new army chief within 48 hours to limit the role of current military leadership.

Sheikh Ahsan-ud-Din is a prominent lawyer of the Supreme Court (SC) and spokesperson of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

He said close associates had told the PM that presently, the Supreme Court was a bigger threat to the government and the role of current military leadership could be controlled by appointing a new chief of army staff.

Ahsan-ud-Din further revealed that the government would formulate a strategy against the SC after the Panamagate hearing on November 1, adding that a certain leader had advised the PM to write a letter to detach the CJ from the bench in view of the observations made by him in the previous hearing.

However, most of the aides were of the view that government should avoid confrontation with the SC at this crucial time, he added.

“The PM was also informed by the aides in the meeting that a defense analyst had met with Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri and conveyed the message to him that participating in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s sit-in was equivalent to saving the country,” he said. Sheikh Ahsan-ud-din made these revelations on his social media page.
