Larkana Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kamran Nawaz has announced a reward of Rs 0.1 million for information leading to the arrest of thieves who stole precious artifacts from the museum of World Cultural Heritage site of Mohenjo Daro 14 years ago.
As many as 40 precious artifacts were stolen on May 10, 2002 from the museum and on resistance one security guard, Ghulam Nabi Machi, was injured by the armed criminals. An FIR was registered by the Airport Police Station on the application of curator Zaheeruddin Shar. Three persons nominated in the FIR include Mumtaz Brohi, Ali Dost Brohi and Aijaz Tunio. They were all arrested and case was registered against them but they were set free because of lack of proof.
A few days ago, Sindh High Court had asked the SSP, while hearing a constitutional petition filed for removing illegal encroachments on Mohenjo Daro, to keep a reward of Rs 0.1 million for information on the thieves.
The SSP told reporters on Tuesday that the name of the informer will not be disclosed.
