Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Thursday proposed the renaming of ministry of minorities as interfaith religion ministry to acknowledge the efforts undertaking by the ministry for promotion of interfaith harmony. He floated this proposal during his address at the ceremony organized by Christian community in connection with upcoming Easter here at National Press Club (NPC). He highlighted the sacrifices of slain minority affairs Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, saying the name of minority ministry should be renamed because it was creating discrimination and wrong concepts among the masses and the murder of Shahbaz was also linked up with this discrimination. Rehman also urged all the countrymen to utilize join efforts for the elimination of terrorism from the region. “We got Pakistan with combined efforts and now the same solidarity among all the religions is required,” he added. The federal minister strongly condemned the vile act of US pastor Terry Jones. He said the American government should take stern action against Terry for the desecration of Holy Quran. “I met the American ambassador and urged him to take practical steps against Terry instead of condemning his acts which can create disturbance in the whole world” he informed.
