The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) so far renewed around 149,825 prohibited and non-prohibited bore computerised arms licenses, with five years validity.
However, during the tenure of the present government, the authority has renewed around 105,012 arms licenses.
There is no pending case in renewal category, sources said. While highlighting the procedure for renewal of arms licenses on Saturday, sources said that the NADRA issues one year computerised arms license in lieu of a manual license.
The manual license and record of the applicant are forwarded to the Ministry of Interior for verification, which conveys its verification to the NADRA through an online system.
The NADRA renews verified arms licenses for further five years and applicant approaches its designated centre along with his expired license for renewal.
The authority issues computerised token and applicant is charged with a fee, sources said. After a processing period of three weeks, NADRA issues renewed arms license with five years validity. Applicant’s old expired license is retained for destruction, they added.
