GCU wins All Pakistan Declamation Contest on Iqbal

The Government College University (GCU) Lahore, the alma mater of Allama Iqbal, on Thursday won the All Pakistan Declamation Contest on Allama Iqbal.
Around 30 educational institutions from all over the country took part in the declamation contest held at the Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore in connection with the 73rd death anniversary of the ‘’. GCU Debating Society’s Saadul Hassan was declared the best speaker for his thought-provoking speech highlighting the spirit of Iqbal’s famous verse “” (Rather than sacrificing you self-esteem, opt for self reliance). Sidra from the King Edward Medical University secured the second position while Muhammad Usman from the Services Institute of Medical Sciences was declared third in the declamation contest, which was attended by a large number of students, scholars, poets, writers and faculty members of various universities. GCU Vice Chancellor Dr. Ikramul Haq felicitated Hassan on his commendable performance saying that GCU orators have always been a source of pride for their alma mater.
Iqbal’s vision is still relevant in 21st century: GCU VC: Allama Iqbal’s vision is still relevant in the 21st century and the youth should seek light from his political thought, Government College University (GCU), Lahore Vice Chancellor Dr Ikramul Haq said on Thursday in his message on Iqbal’s 73rd death anniversary. He said that the reconstruction of religious thought in Islam was initiated by Iqbal, which is still relevant today as Pakistan suffers from the menace of fanaticism. The GCU VC said that the varsity has always helped groom poets and thinkers of the caliber of Iqbal. Separately, a delegation of GCU students and teachers led by Dr Haroon Qadir visited Iqbal’s mausoleum and laid a floral wreath.
