Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday dismissed defamation case filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari against Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
IHC Judge Justice Athar Minallah heard Mazari’s petition against Asif today.
The judge, after reviewing the arguments, dismissed the case with the remarks that the courts could not interfere in the matters of the Parliament under Article 69 of the constitution.
Khwaja Asif had termed Shireen Mazari a “tractor trolley” during a session of the National Assembly on June 8th.
The issue erupted when Asif was speaking in the House, claiming that country was facing no load-shedding of power during Sehr and Iftar hours in Ramzan. The statement drew ire of the opposition who reacted to the minister’s statement sharply, calling it wrong.
Islamabad High Court (IHC) on 26th September admitted Mazari’s petition seeking disqualification of Asif for using unethical language against her for hearing.
