According to confirmation by Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Chief Operation Officer, Subhan Ahmed, Azhar Ali will remain Pakistan’s ODI captain for the series against West Indies.
Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series against West Indies in UAE starting September 30. Two other matches will be played on October 2 and 5.
There was speculation that Azhar Ali might resign or be asked to step down following Pakistan’s humiliating ODI series defeat against England.
Azhar took over the captaincy after 2015 World Cup and has led the side in eight series. During his captaincy, Pakistan has only beaten Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Ireland (in a one-off match) in this time and are currently ranked ninth in ODIs with 86 points, their lowest ever tally since the ranking system was introduced in 2001.
