Did Christian Grey just defeat Han Solo?

The Fifty Shades Darker trailer hit the internet on Tuesday and has broken the worldwide record for most views in 24 hours, according to Deadline. The trailer, which was viewed 114 million times in its first 24 hours, surpassed the previous record-holder Star Wars: The Force Awakens (which had 112 million views in its first day).

In the US, the Fifty Shades Darker trailer racked up 39.4 million views, leaving the international markets to bring in the other 74.6 million views, with the UK and Brazil as the top two performing markets, the report said.

The number is taken from digital platforms including Facebook, YouTube and the like.

In less than an hour, it had amassed 2.5 million views on the film’s Facebook page alone.

Tuesday’s trailer release was preceded by a 20-second teaser on Monday that primed fans for the full clip.

Starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, Fifty Shades Darker opens in theatres February 2017.
