Seven first aid centres functioning on national highways, motorways, NA told

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that presently seven first aid centres are functional on national highways and motorways network.

In question hour, he said, first aid centres were operational at Mardan, Chakri, Sukheki, Sial, Bhera, Kallar Kahar and Nooriabad.

He said that availability of emergency and first aid medical services on highway, motorways are essential.

In this respect, he said, the National Highway Authority has initiated a study on setting up emergency response centres on suitable locations which are expected to be established within three months.

To minimise the accidents ratio, the NHA had started awareness of commuters through installation of sign boards, enforcement of speed limit restriction by National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP), installation of speed breakers/cat eyes at crucial locations, monitoring of heavy weight vehicles through Axle Load Control Programme, patrolling of NH&MP on National Highways and Motorways, police fine imposition, timely repair and maintenance of roads and enforcement of Highway Safety Programme.

He said the construction works on dualisation of existing Muzaffargarh- DG Khan Road had not begun; however, the NHA had invited bids for undertaking up gradation, dualisation of Multan-Muzaffargarh- DG Khan section of the National Highway.

He further said the prime minister has recently approved a package to revive Pakistan Post.
