Karachi Traffic Police Department successfully filled 867 posts of traffic constables, including 54 females, on pure merit.

A total of 4,547 vacancies were announced few months back in Karachi Traffic Police Department and the remaining posts will be filled through re-adverting and pure merit procedure, DIG Traffic Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh said on Monday.

DIG Amir said as many as 26,412 applicants had applied throughout Sindh, out of which only 20 per cent could pass physical test while 50 per cent passed written test. The overall pass percentage stood 40 per cent in Sindh police’s all six ranges, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana.

This was the first time in the history that the merit was strictly ensured with help of Rangers, and officially all test centres were recorded through video while taking physical test of the candidates so that the deserving and physically fit candidates could get chance to work in traffic police, the DIG added.

It may be noted that in Karachi Traffic Police Department, only 3,000 traffic cops are regulating four million vehicles in the metropolis, and in view of such shortage, the Sindh government decided last year to recruit 4,547 traffic. All traffic policemen would be deployed in Karachi for ensuring smooth traffic flow, he said.

Amir advised youth to be physically fit and fully prepared while appearing in the test because the recruitment process would be on pure merit. All deserving candidates would be encouraged so that they develop trust in the Karachi Traffic Police Department, he concluded.
