On the eve of Literacy Day, Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has rolled out digital enabled women empowerment centres across the country.

Through this project thousands of young girls are being trained through Microsoft’s Coding and Computing program aiming at enhancing the employability potential of young girls, said a news release on Monday.

IT Minister Anusha Rahman has made these centres operational as part of ICTs for girls project.

While inaugurating the ceremonies at their respective places, the parliamentarians thanked the prime minister and IT minister for the establishment of these centres.

They also expressed hope that through this initiative the community would benefit from large number of girls digitally educated and skilled, who could not only empower themselves for financial self sustenance but would empower the whole community for a growing Pakistan.

On this occasion, Minister for IT Anusha Rahman said, “Seeing all these centres operational in a minimal possible time by ensuring quality infrastructure and state of the art skills enablement was her continual focus”.

“I am grateful to Allah for providing me the strength to take this project forward for a very noble purpose of empowering our future through the girls and women”, she said.

The minister hoped that these girls being trained under Microsoft’s computing and coding program in a highly enabled digital environment will prove to be a great asset for the growth of Pakistan.

This is Phase-I of the program, she said and added that “we are rolling out hundreds of such centres in the coming months.

“We are determined to unleash the true potential of ‘digital Pakistan’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif whose vision of proliferating technology for empowering the society is the continual guidance for us”, she said.

Managing Director Bait-ul-mal Abid Sheikh has thanked prime minister and Minister for IT for establishing these centers at Baitulmal run facilities.

He said that these centres can enable a large number of girls from less advantaged segments of society to help support their families by up skilling them in Information Technology through formal and informal means of employment.

He assured all-out support to make these centres function in line with the true spirit of the program.
