A woman died in an ambulance on Saturday as she could not reach the hospital due to blockades of the road leading to the three government hospitals in Rawalpindi.

According to reports, the woman was first taken towards Civil Hospital in Raja Bazar area, but the roads were closed with containers. The ambulance then turned towards Benazir Bhutto Shaheed hospital but due to the closure of roads, she died in the ambulance.

Relatives of the deceased expressed their strong resentment over the closure of roads. They strongly criticised the government and the opposition for their grief and said they have no sympathy for the poor.

A Rawalpindi citizen standing near the ambulance said that the opposition was protesting just to reach the corridor of power while the government was hell bent to derail the protest rallies in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

According to reports, a large number of other patients could not reach the hospitals as the roads were closed. Similarly, many people coming from rural areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad could not reach their places of work as transport was not available.

In Lahore, a child died in the ambulance in Shahdara as Lahore roads were closed and he could not be taken to Mayo hospital. This was despite the fact that the father of the child repeatedly begged the police from place to place to give them passage, but to no avail and in the meantime the boy died. The young boy had taken poisonous pills meant for killing mice.
