Minhaj Qazi indicted in KESC MD’s murder case

An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday indicted Minhaj Qazi in the murder case of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation managing director Shahid Hamid.

Qazi has pleaded innocence in the case and the court has summoned witnesses in the case on the next hearing. Minhaj Qazi used to serve as security in-charge of Muttahida Qaumi Movement headquarters at Nine Zero.

It is worth mentioning here that the main accused in the case, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s disenchanted worker, Saulat Mirza, was awarded death penalty and hanged in Machh Jail on May 12 last year. In May, the widow and son of the slain managing director identified Qazi during identification process in the court.

It was then that the family of the murdered MD appeared before the court for the first time after they returned to the country.

Umer Hamid and his mother had recorded statements before the court. Shehnaz stated that Saulat Mirza had opened fire on her late husband followed by Qazi. Shahid Hamid was murdered in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA) on July 5, 1997. His driver Ashraf Brohi, and guard Khan Akbar were also killed in the attack.

THREE INJURED FOR RESISTING ROBBERY BID

As many as three people were injured for putting up resistance during a robbery in the area of Korangi on Tuesday.

Rescue sources said that some unknown suspects tried to rob three persons in Korangi. When they tried to resist, the bandits opened fire on them, leaving three injured who were rushed to a nearby local hospital for first aid. Meanwhile, a suspect was arrested in injured condition during police encounter in the area of Momin Abad. Five suspects were also arrested by the law enforcement agencies during a search operation in adjacent areas of SP Baldia. Arm and ammunition were recovered from their possession. Police said that all arrested suspects were involved in different murder and robbery cases.
