The committee formed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to probe child kidnappings presented its report to the apex court on Thursday.
According to the report, 310 children were missing while 170 have been recovered by the law enforcers.
The report cited vice chancellor King Edward Medical College as stating that organ transplantation of children below five years was not possible. However, he added that the same process could be done in children over 13-year-old.
On August 4, a division bench of the Supreme Court constituted a committee to inquire about the recovery of kidnapped children and submit its report by August 25.
Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken a suo motu notice of the rising incidents of child abductions and had sought a report from the IGP.
The court bench held police responsible for failing to stop such incidents.
In his report to the SC, the IG Punjab said from 2011 to 2016, 6,793 children had been abducted. “Out of them, 6,654 have been recovered. We are investigating the remaining 139 cases. So far this year, 767 children have been abducted. Out of which, 715 have been recovered.
