Karachi’s new mayor Waseem Akhtar, while talking to the media, was cautioned by deputy mayor Arshad Vohra, who was standing next to him during his speech. Waseem Akhtar was constantly deflecting questions about the events of May 12, 2007 in Karachi for which he is currently under arrest. After being forced to talk about the issue he simply said “if you have any guts then go and arrest Pervez Musharraf and charge him under Article 6 of the constitution”.
As soon as he completed his sentence, Arshad Vohra took a call on his cellphone, covering his face. The mic in front was, however, able to pick up what he was saying. “mein rok raha hun (I am stopping him)” and “mein nei haath dubaaya hua hai (I am pressing his hand)”.
After cancelling the call, Arshad Vohra whispered to Waseem Akhtar, “bauhat careful waseem” (be very careful waseem)”, “sirf Karachi par baatkaro, kal wali koi baat na karo (only talk about Karachi. Do not mention yesterday’s events).”
Speaking to the private TV channel whose mic picked up the conversation, Arshad Vohra categorically denied the incident, saying he was getting multiple calls and the anchor questioning him was welcome to come and have a look at his phone.
