You would never guess where Olympians have been hanging out in Rio. Named after the Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, Bin Laden Bar has become the most popular haunt among athletes at the Rio Olympics.
However, before you freak out, the bar has only been named after Bin Laden as its long-bearded owner bears a resemblance to the Sept 11, 2001, attacks mastermind. José Felipe de Araújo, the owner of the bar told that everyone just started calling him Bin Laden and the name stuck.
After Sept 11, everyone started calling me Bin Laden for obvious reasons. The nickname stuck, so I decided to use it to my advantage,” he said.
According to the report, Araújo, 60, a former manual labourer who opened his establishment more than a decade ago. He entertains customers from around the globe with dishes like grilled sirloin, pizzas and tall bottles of Antarctica beer served “stupidly cold” as is the practice in Rio de Janeiro
However, the entertainment is not just limited to Jose behind the bar, it even has a regular funk singer named MC Bin Laden. and there is another joint by the same name has built up a steady clientele in São Paulo.
