The case of newborn babies’ kidnapping and sale took a new turn, as the parents themselves were found involved in the sale of a baby girl recovered from the custody of alleged gang members.

On Friday, Peshawar police busted a gang of five women and two men that included a nurse, two health workers, and an agent for alleged involvement in baby trafficking.

The gang swapped newborn babies with the bodies of dead infants in hospitals and maternity homes and told their parents the child had died.

The gang used to sell a baby for Rs 300,000 to the couples who were unable to conceive.

During the investigation, the suspects revealed that a couple sold a baby girl to them for Rs 100,000.

After the identification, police managed to arrest the couple in Pabbi tehsil of Nowshera district on Monday who revealed that they have five daughters and financial crisis forced them to sell their sixth daughter. Police have started an investigation in the light of these fresh statements.
