The Cowboys made sure one of their best assets remains a member of their team for the foreseeable future on Saturday when they locked up center Travis Frederick for a massive 6-year, $56.4 million contract extension, the team announced.
The deal, which will make him the highest-paid center in the NFL, offers $18.2 million fully guaranteed and $28.2 million in total guarantees, according to NFL.com.
Frederick would still have been under his rookie contract until 2018, but is now locked up with the Cowboys until 2023. He is a key cog in Dallas’ top-end offensive line, a unit owner Jerry Jones feels is one of the strongest points on his team.
“I don’t know how many different ways we can say it, but it’s (the offensive line) the strong point of our football team the strength of it,” Jones said . “The amazing thing about it is that it’s not only a strength in terms of on the field, but they represent everything we want in terms of the work ethic and what they do off the field. It’s a great group to try and keep them all together.”
The Cowboys drafted Frederick No. 31 overall out of Wisconsin in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has since earned to two trips to the Pro Bowl, and could still reach All-Pro status.
