The Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) in collaboration with the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association-Sindh (FAPUASA-Sindh) has given a call of strike on August 31 if demands of the KU’s teachers are not met till August 30.
According to details, the KUTS held a meeting of its general body in KU about their ongoing issues. The secretaries and presidents of teachers’ associations from other six universities of Sindh also attended the meeting on special invitation of the teachers’ society.
In the meeting, the KUTS decided to observe strike on August 31 if their demands are not met by August 30. The FAPUASA-Sindh supported the strike call and warned that academic activities of all public universities in Sindh will be suspended on August 31.
FAPUASA-Sindh President Dr Shah Nawaz Talpur said that demands of the KU’s teachers were justifiable and the universities of all Sindh stood with them. He added that issues of all universities of Sindh were similar in nature, but inefficiency, unbearable behaviour of the KU’s director finance and delay in payment of salaries were intolerable.
The president of Teachers Association, Sindh University, Dr Irfana Mallah said it was unbelievable that teachers of all other universities of Sindh had been paid the leave encashment but the KU’s teachers were deprived of this facility.
