This Independence Day, Farhan Akhtar and many other artists will join hands with the Robin Hood Army to feed underprivileged Pakistanis and Indians.
This Independence Day, major start-ups, musicians and the Robin Hood Army (RHA) are coming together in a unique project to unite Indians and Pakistanis into action. #Mission500k will mobilise students, start-ups, families and corporate offices to rally together and serve meals to 5,00,000 less fortunate people on both sides of the border on Independence Day.
The initiative will be promoting harmony between the two nations.
The artists, including Farhan, Vishal Dadlani and Clinton Cerejoto, will sing the Mission 500k anthem with volunteers from Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai.
Farhan Akhtar while talking about this initiative said, “The Robin Hood Army’s desire to feed half a million people across India and Pakistan this year on their respective Independence Days is an effort I whole-heartedly support.”
“I appeal to people everywhere to participate in this incredible initiative to help eradicate hunger and malnutrition. It’s our world. We have to make it better,” he added.
Co-founder of the Karachi chapter Anam Rafiq also revealed the aim of their Independence Day mission.
“Our aim is to get the food from restaurants and try not to let it go to waste. Many people go hungry at night, so, keeping this in mind, we pledge to feed 500,000 poor people in seven countries,” she vowed.
“We are excited to bring everyone together and see the potential impact of this project. The idea is to get citizens across both countries to be aware and act on our common enemy – hunger,” said Neel Ghose, founder of the Robin Hood Army.
“Our teams across Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore are chalking out major plans for the 14th. What we need is not monetary contributions, just the time and compassion of our fellow citizens,” said Sarah Afridi, who set up the RHA in Pakistan.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the start-ups will use their platforms and social media reach to spread the word to inspire millions of users to act. They will also contribute directly to the project by enabling people to donate in kind to #Mission500k. There will be strictly no fundraising.
There are 230 million people in the sub-continent who do not get two square meals a day, though #Mission500k will create a small difference in the macro scheme of things.
Food is a very basic necessity for human beings, and in today’s age with scores of fast food franchises and food delivery apps at out disposal, people won’t hesitate in ordering excess food, even as wastage remains a major cause for concern globally. Hence, Robin Hood Army feeds the poor by taking food from affluent restaurants.
