Security forces detain 100 suspects involved in May 12 riots

In ongoing operations after the Quetta blast, the law enforcement agencies apprehended 100 suspects including two culprits on Tuesday night after conducting raids in District East and Malir. The two culprits were linked with May 12 riots in Karachi and were arrested on the pointation of detained nominated city mayor and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Waseem Akhtar.

According to reports, important breakthroughs were made during investigation from the apprehended culprits – Nasir Zia and Syed Salman Rizvi. The culprits revealed that the MQM leaders ordered that the rally of former chief justice (CJ) Iftikhar Chaudhary be halted. They further revealed that the MQM officials provided ammunition to them on May 10, 2007.

Investigation officers stated that Nasir Zia and Syed Salman Rizvi were being investigated and raids conducted on two different locations on indication of the arrested culprits.

The investigation officers added that significant arrests could be made in the light of Waseem Akhtar’s interrogation report.

Meanwhile, crackdown against criminal elements continued in Karachi as 98 suspects were arrested during security forces operation in different parts of the city. According to details, Rangers carried out an operation on a tip-off in PIB Ghosia Colony and arrested four suspects during a search of a residential building. Sources in Rangers said the arrested persons were shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

On the other hand, police conducted a search operation in Hazara Colony and apprehended at least 50 suspects. Police also launched an operation in Teesar Town and arrested 44 suspects.
