The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought comments from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) administrator, financial advisor, senior director of accounts and director education on the petition filed by six blind teachers seeking their four-month salaries.
Mst Sana Daniyal, Mst Shahnaz Begum, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Suleman, Peer Hussain and Naseer Ahmed were appointed on contracts in KMC’s education department on disabled person quota and were working as teachers in different schools of the city.
The petitioners submitted that their contracts were expired in February this year and they filed applications for the renewal of their contracts but they performed their duties with dedication even after the expiry of contracts.
“After four months of contracts’ expiry, the KMC extended our contracts and started paying salaries from the period when contracts were renewed but the department did not release salaries which were withheld during the expiry of contracts,” the disabled teachers added. They contended that their salaries should be issued as they deserved to be paid for their efforts and dedication.
The blind teachers submitted in their petitions that Amigos Welfare Trust for the Blind Persons made efforts for their regularisation and approached the prime minister of Pakistan and the Sindh chief minister who directed the authorities concerned to undertake measure for regularising the petitioners. “Many other disabled persons were regularised by the department but we are still deprived from our right,” they added.
Impleading the chief secretary, KMC’s administrator, senior director of accounts and director education as respondents, the petitioners requested the court to direct the authorities concerned to release their salaries.
The SHC bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, issued notices to the respondents and the advocate general directing them to file their comments on 17th of August 2016.
