Says load shedding will end by 2018
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the PML-N government will end load shedding from the country by the end of its tenure.
The prime minister was chairing a meeting on energy projects in the country at the PM House, Islamabad on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed progress on the ongoing and future energy projects in terms of the benchmarks.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the pace of work on the energy projects and said that the present government is effectively diversifying the energy mix of the country to overcome the energy shortfall. It is encouraging that all the ongoing energy projects are being executed cost-effectively, the prime minister observed.
The prime minister laid special emphasis on the progress of energy projects under CPEC and directed for reviewing the pace of work on these projects on regular basis. The prime minister further directed that utmost transparency must be ensured while executing all the energy projects in the country.
He said the government’s aim is to reduce the energy shortfall in the country which has been affecting the domestic as well as industrial consumers for several years.
“We are committed to providing not only sufficient electricity but also affordable electricity to the consumers, enabling them to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country,” said the prime minister.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Punjab CM Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Water and Power Secretary Muhammad Younas Dagha and other senior government officials.
