Pakistan batsman Younus Khan revealed on Sunday his own viewpoint on questions being asked about the change in his batting technique which has lowered his performance.

In a post-match interview in Worcestershire, the 38-year-old batsman said that he believes his batting style to be the same as it was previously as it was throughout his career. “I have heard a lot in the media that my playing style has changed, but to me, I am playing like I always have,” he said. “I don’t know how can I change my batting style at this age?”

The right-handed batsman previously enjoyed a good performance in Pakistan’s opening tour against Somerset where he scored a century in the first innings. However, since then, he has been subpar with the bat in the Tests against England at Lord’s and Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, the former skipper believes that the national team can still turn things around in the remaining two matches of the Test series.

“We need to upgrade our performance and learn from our mistakes,” he said. “England made a good comeback in the second Test by focusing on their strengths, so we need to do that as well and believe in ourselves.”

The 2009 World T20 winner admitted that there are mounting expectations on him from fans to perform well, but he considers this as motivation rather than pressure. He said he hopes to restore his supporters’ faith in the upcoming matches.

“I know people expect me to put on a good show, and I want to do that too,” he said. “I want to forget the past and look forward, like I always have in my career. And I hope we can win this series.”

Younus, who has represented Pakistan in 106 Tests and has made a record 9203 runs at an average of 53.19, is one of three batsmen from the country to score more than 300 runs in an innings; the other two being Hanif Mohammad (337) and Inzamamul Haq (329).

  1. I don't think there is anything wrong with Younis Khan batting technique or batting style. He gave away his wicket by not playing responsibly like other Pakistani batsmen. Younis Khan as a senior batsman should take twice extra responsibility. This is the right time for him to serve his country by guiding youngsters in right direction. Younis can play for few more years if he keep his fitness up to date and keep scoring runs like Misbah.
