Shah’s resignation came in the wake of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s decision to inject “young blood” for the betterment of the province, as Maula Bux Chandio, adviser to the Sindh chief minister on information, informed earlier.

PPP picked Syed Murad Ali Shah as the successor of Qaim Ali Shah during a senior leadership’s meeting in Dubai on Sunday.

The Sindh Assembly has 168 seats and Murad Ali Shah needs at least 85 votes to clinch the coveted seat. Although the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has 91 seats, there are several members who are either estranged or are currently out of the country.

According to reports, PPP leaders Nadir Magsi, Hasnain Mirza, Ali Nawaz and Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani are estranged and are unlikely to vote for him, while Sarjeel Memon and Owais Muzaffar are out of the country.

Earlier, advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Maula Bux Chandio said that claims that Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah was “dumped unceremoniously” from his post are not correct. Changes like that are part and parcel of the parliamentary system; therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone, he said.

Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on his talk show DNA on Channel 24, he said, “It is the prerogative of the party chief to make such changes; Shah is a hardworking person who was fortunate enough to serve Sindh in the capacity of a chief minister on three separate occasions. His removal was not punitive by any means and it was made after a mutual consensus within the party.”

Arif Nizami said on Wednesday that Murad Ali Shah’s appointment as the new chief minister of Sindh is a “change for the better”. He is well educated, young, and his attention span must be better, he said.
