The ECP on Thursday issued schedule for holding election of Mayors and Deputy Mayors in District Councils, Municipal Committees, Town Committees, Municipal Corporation, District Municipal Corporations and Metropolitan Corporation relating to Sindh province.

However, elections of Municipal Committee Thatta and District Council Thatta, District Thatta and Municipal Committee, Gambat, District Khairpur will be conducted later.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued schedule for mayoral elections in Sindh when an anti-terrorism court has sent Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and its Karachi mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar to jail on physical remand on Tuesday in the terror facilitation case. The court also issued a notice on two separate bail applications, shifting the matter to ATC-I.

However, sources in ECP told Pakistan Today that Waseem Akhtar could contest election even if he is in jail, because he is illegible for the slot of mayor until charges in terror facilitation case are proved against him.
