The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday suspended a non-bailable arrest warrant against model Ayyan Ali and issued notices to the interior secretary, Waris Khan police station SHO and others concerned in Customs inspector’s murder case.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, within an hour of filing the plea, formed a two-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal to hear the case.

Farooq H Naik, counsel for the defence, had filed a plea in the SC earlier.

Gulfam Butt, magistrate of a court in Rawalpindi had issued non-bailable arrest warrant of Ayyan on Thursday after she did not appear for a hearing of the murder case.

Inspector Ijaz Chaudhry allegedly died in Benazir Bhutto Hospital after he was shot in the leg. A case developed when late customs official’s wife pleaded in a court that he was murdered to ‘protect’ Ayyan in a money laundering case.

Ayyan was arrested in March 2015 at an airport in Islamabad as she tried to smuggle $506,800 in cash to United Arab Emirates.

The slain customs official was in-charge to seize the cash and submit the money in the State Bank.

According to late inspector’s wife, her husband was killed for refusing to succumb to the pressure.

The SC adjourned the hearing till July 25.
