Pakistan Army was requisitioned in Azad Kashmir on Tuesday to conduct the July 21 general elections on the request of the government and the AJK Election Commission.

After separate meetings, “it was decided the army will be deployed to provide security under Article 245 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Section 4 and 5 of the Antiterrorism Act 1999(XXVll of 1997),” said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement on Tuesday.

Elections in the valley will be held in 41 constituencies on Thursday.

The troops will assist the election commission conduct of the polls, as well as facilitate the government in maintaining law and order by deployment of troops inside and outside the polling stations.
