The Punjab Police have decided to promote officials, who were demoted earlier on a court order, through departmental promotion boards.
Sources privy to the development said that directives in this respect had been issued to all regional police officers and capital police officers by Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Sukhera.
Per directives, a meeting of the board will be called and in the first phase, promotion cases of ranks ranging from constables to sub-inspectors will be entertained. Promotions of inspectors and officials on higher ranks would also be finalised within this month, the sources said.
The Supreme Court had demoted over 10,200 police officers for getting out-of-turn promotions. The Punjab Police have now initiated a process for promoting these officials through proper channel.
