Peoples People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Wednesday said that the members of ‘Move on Pakistan’ should be arrested and charged with treason if the controversial posters have not been installed by the government.

The posters urging Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to take over the government, which appeared in Lahore, Karachi and the garrison city of Rawalpindi as well as several cantonment areas, were placed there by ‘Move on Pakistan’, a largely-unknown political party found in 2013.

Speaking to media outside the Supreme Court, the PPP leader asked why an action has not been taken against those responsible for putting up these posters.

“I think the government is involved in this,” he added.

The posters are a ploy by the government to put pressure on the opposition and to create an atmosphere of uncertainty, Aitzaz said.

He said whenever the opposition talks about the Panama leaks or the prime minister’s corruption, the government says there is a threat to democracy.
