Rain emergency declared in city hospitals

The provincial health department has declared rain emergency in all Karachi hospitals following weather predictions while heads of hospitals have been directed to ensure presence of doctors, paramedics, and medicines in the institutions.

Director Health Services Dr Shakoor Abbasi has declared rain emergency in all city hospitals on the directives of provincial minister for health and secretary health. He also directed all district and town health officers to ensure availability of doctors, medical staff and medicines in healthcare centers.

A control room was also established at director health office to monitor the rain emergency situation, while all district health officers have been directed to establish control rooms in their respective DHO offices and remain in contact with town health officers.

Meanwhile, the health department has appointed Dr Zafar Mehdi as focal person to monitor rain emergency situation. He issued directives to medical superintendents and DHOs to ensure availability of doctors, medicines and establish rain emergency control rooms.

The focal person has been assigned to monitor the arrangements made in public sector hospitals to cope with expected heavy monsoons. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has also declared rain emergency in all the city departments.
