Eidul Fitr was celebrated in Karachi on Wednesday with religious fervour.
The main Eid congregation in the metropolis was held at the Bagh-i-Jinnah – Old Polo Ground – where Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, high officials and members of the diplomatic corps from the Islamic countries also offered Eid prayers.
Special prayers were also offered for the progress, prosperity, development and security in the country as well as peace in Karachi and elsewhere.
The Namaz-e-Eid in Karachi was offered at about 3,000 mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgahs, parks and open places. The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) made foolproof security arrangements. As many as 11,500 police officers and Jawans performed security duty in Karachi on the occasion.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khwaja had directed to carry out random snap-checking, patrolling and other required security measures.
He further instructed that steps be also taken for ensuring smooth flow of traffic. On the Eid day, weather in Karachi was fair and the Karachiites visited the Clifton beach and other places of recreation to enjoy themselves.
