The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday rejected K-Electric’s summary seeking Rs 14/unit increase in power prices to provide relief to the Karachiites.

A NEPRA official said that the authorities have expressed reservations over increasing electricity prices as the metropolis is facing severe power crisis.

He said that a total of Rs 8 per unit reduction has been observed in the electricity rate due to which K-Electric has been directed to compensate the money.

NEPRA has also said that the decision of raising the prices of electricity will be taken afterwards.

  1. K-Electric is already charging Rs 20 per unit, now it wants to increase to Rs 34 per unit. Pakistan has vast oil and gas resources and internationally the price of oil has dropped. K-Electric should only be charging Rs 5 per unit.
