Farahnaz Ispahani, wife of former Pakistani envoy to US Hussain Haqqani and a member of the Pakistan People’s Party, has resigned from the party.
Ispahani resigned from the party’s membership days after the PPP disowned “the statements and opinions” of her husband, Hussain Haqqani. She tendered her resignation to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on June 25, stating that there was little space for people like her in the current party setup.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write these words. I entered politics at the urging of your mother, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. I hope to always follow in her path of dignity and the politics of conscience. However, with distance and thought I find that I cannot find a place for myself in today’s PPP. Therefore, I tender my resignation from the party,” she said.
Farahnaz said that she and her husband plan to continue with their scholarship and public life outside the PPP.
“I will always be there for you and your sisters if you ever need me in any way. May God bless you and always keep you safe,” she added.
Farahnaz Ispahani has served as the media adviser to former president Asif Ali Zardari from 2008 to 2012.
