Over 5000 women from underdeveloped areas will be equipped with computer skills under the Women Digital Empowerment Program during the next fiscal year.
In the Annual Development Plan for the next year, the government has earmarked over 5,020 million rupees for the Information Technology sector with emphasis on developing human resource and accelerating the pace of e-government to facilitate people in access to government services.
In this connection, some major projects include the establishment of Software Technology Park, National Data Centre and work on high-resolution Remote Sensing Satellite to help in disaster management such as flood forecasting and damage assessment.
The Ministry of Information Technology is also focusing on minimising the IT gap between urban and rural communities by extending cellular and telephone services to 172 unserved areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Ministry also plans to establish five hundred Universal Tele-centres (UTCs) for public access to Information and Communication Technology.
