The dwellers of Rawal town raised their voice against the lack of facilities in their area and they believe that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) does not bother about their concerns.
Currently, Rawal town is facing various issues, including miserable condition of parks, lack of health facilities, dung of animals and particularly seeping sewer which is causing many diseases among the dwellers and their children.
Rawal town is a middle-class residential area which is badly neglected by the CDA. Amir, a local resident, said, “The CDA only cares about posh areas; areas like ours are not their priority”.
Another inhabitant of Rawal town, Mohammad Abbas who is a former employee of the CDA said that the children do not have any place for recreation. “Rawal town have three parks but all of them are in miserable condition, the playing equipment in parks have been badly damaged and no maintenance has been done by the CDA from quite a long time,” he said.
Almost 30 years ago, Rawal town was actually a Gwalla colony. The real purpose of this colony was to establish a living place for milkmen along with their cows. The public has shown great concern regarding animals dung in the streets. A milkman Hamza said, “We are living here since 1975 and we do not have an option to leave this place along our animals.”
CDA spokesperson Malik Saleem admitted their negligence and said that it is our responsibility to do proper arrangements to clean the area and provide facilities to the residents of Rawal town. He further said that we have allocated a large amount for the maintenance of parks and other facilities in the next fiscal year and we will soon take action on the issues of Rawal town.
