A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Monday allowed time to MNA Jamshed Dasti to hire a counsel to respond to an appeal, filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against his acquittal in a bogus degree case.

The bench passed the directions after the respondent MNA sought time for the purpose.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, heard the appeal at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

The ECP submitted that the respondent MNA resigned from NA-178 due to a bogus degree. The commission submitted that the ECP regional office filed a complaint against the respondent on bogus degree charges in the trial court, wherein he was awarded three years sentence.

However, the LHC set aside the sentence. The commission contended that the LHC decision was against the facts and pleaded with the bench to set aside the verdict and restore the sentence.
