Muslims across the country have started observing Itikaf in mosques and at homes on Sunday as the third ashra (last 10 days) of the holy month of Ramzan has started.

Itikaf is a spiritual offering in Islam observed in the last ten days of Ramzan during which the believers detach themselves from the society and indulge solely in the act of worshipping, keeping the worldly affairs on hold for 10 days. One can either offer Itikaf in mosques or at their own home but they have to stay at a particular place for the observation.

The observers will spend most of their time in reciting Quran, offering special prayers and seeking blessings from Allah during Itikaf.

Special prayers are conducted for national security and integrity while the unity of Muslim nation is also prayed for.

Special security arrangements are also being made for the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramazan so that the believers can observe Itikaf without any fear. Police officials and volunteers have been deployed at entrances of mosques to avert possible terror acts.
