Punjab to hold polio campaign in five districts from 27 June

Punjab will hold polio campaign in five southern districts of the province from 27 June to 4 July as part of case response to positive environmental sample in Dera Ghazi Khan, Advisor to Chief Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique announced in Lahore.

He said: “The campaign will be conducted in Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

Healthcare Primary and Secondary Secretary Ali Jan Khan said: “The campaign is being organised due to positive environmental sample in Dera Ghazi Khan. The presence of virus in the environment means we cannot afford any complacency.”

Punjab Health Services Director General Dr Mukhtar Hussein Syed said that the campaign will target 23,51,014 children of below five years of age in 281 union councils of the five districts. He said in DG Khan, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur the campaign will be held in full districts, whereas in Multan and Rahim Yar Khan selected union councils will be part of the campaign.

Punjab’s EOC Coordinator Dr Munir Ahmed said: “In our bid to ensure that the province remains polio-free, five districts have been selected for the campaign after the positive environmental sample in DG Khan.”

Dr Munir further said that Pakistan has been in the global spotlight for polio and efforts are being made to make the country polio-free.
