The Sindh government has set up separate joint investigation teams (JITs) on the murder case of qawwal Amjad Sabri and kidnapping of the Sindh High Court chief justice’s son Advocate Owais Ali Shah.

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah gave a go-ahead for constituting the two JITs, comprising representatives of intelligence agencies, Rangers and police, said a spokesperson of the Chief Minister House.

The JITs have been formed after the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and police in Karachi could not find possible leads into the two recent high-profile cases.

It has also been decided that inmates held in prisons would be taken into the fold of the JIT investigation, the spokesperson added.

Director General Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar and Inspector General of Sindh police A.D. Khawaja also visited the home of Amjad Sabri in Liaquatabad area in Karachi and met his family members to offer their condolences while pledging that the killers would be brought to justice.

Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested four suspects through geofencing in Amjad Sabri’s murder case after three days.

Advocate Owais Shah, son of the Chief Justice Sindh High Court (SHC) Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, has been missing since June 20 from near a supermarket in Clifton.

The investigation into Owais’s kidnapping was in initial stages when unknown armed motorcyclists sprayed Sabri with bullets in the Liaquatabad area on June 22 when the 45-year-old was heading to a private TV channel to perform in its Ramazan transmission.

  1. JITs are good for nothing. Recently couple of JIT reports have been rejected including Baldia factory fire, which killed more than 250 bread-earners of poor families. Can quote more examples. Mostly JITs and committees are announced to silence the Media. Bhatta mafia is working underground and Sabri had been earning a lot during Ramzan shows. And Owais could be beyond Landhi Kotal by now – wherefrom YRG's son was recovered. Let us hope !
