In order to protect the environment from pollution, the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency has issued show-cause notices to the managements of 28 public and private hospitals and owners of 38 residential schemes of Hyderabad.
The decision to this effect was made at a meeting which was presided over by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency director general on Friday.
The meeting expressed grave concern over not adopting the proper procedure for disposal of hospital affluent and decided to issue show-cause notices to the managements of Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad and Jamshoro Branches, Isra Medical University, Tajputana Hospital, Ghani Hospital Qasimabad, Taluka Hospital Qasimabad, Shah Bhitai Hospital Latifabad, Eye Hospital Hyderabad, Afzal Medical Centre, Asim Clinic Qasimabad, Lady Deferens Hospital, Hafiz Mubarak Hospital Cloth Market, Nazim Memorail Hospital, Maaji Hospital, Hilal-e-Ahmer General and Cardio Hospitals, Jeejal Maa Hospital, Bone Care Hospital, Allah Bachayo Memon Hospital, Kotri Hospital, Bin Tayyab Hospital, Hajiani Hospital, Agha Khan Hospital and Niaz Hospital.
The show-cause notices to the managements of these public and private hospitals have been issued under the EPA Act in which the managements concerned have been asked to make proper arrangement of the disposal of hospital waste and effluent at specially allocated points as directed under Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014 of EPA Act.
Besides, the EPA has issued final show-cause notices to builders of 38 residential schemes and decided to file their cases before the environmental tribunals. These builders have been charged of not fulfilling the requirements of disposal of sewage, construction of green belts, passage of air crossing, waste bin, parking and treatment plants.
