ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the federation’s review petition against the order setting aside the Parliamentary Committee’s recommendations for rejecting judges’ appointment.
According to a private TV, the bench, comprising Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, was hearing the review petition, filed by the government, against the March 4 decision of the apex court setting aside the Parliamentary Committee’s recommendations for rejecting the one-year extension of six high court judges, four from the Lahore High Court and two from the Sindh High Court.
During the hearing, Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that the eight-member parliamentary committee did not have the status of parliament. Rather, he said, the parliamentary committee was answerable to parliament.
He said there was no room in the constitution to establish parallel institutions.
