The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a show-cause notice to a private TV channel for broadcasting objectionable remarks of a panelist during a live TV show.

“During ‘Aap Ka Budget 2016-17’ show on Metro 1 TV, panelist Ilyas Bilour uttered abusive remarks regarding the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, which were aired without being censored,” a statement by the watchdog said on Tuesday.

“The channel has violated the code of conduct approved by the Supreme Court of Pakistan by airing the abusive remarks,” it added.

The media regulator has directed Metro 1 TV administration to submit an official response over the violation of PEMRA’s Ordinance 2002 by July 5.

The development comes only a day after PEMRA directed two private TV channels to air apologies for promoting controversial and sectarian views during their Ramzan transmissions.

On Friday PEMRA had imposed a ban on the Ramzan transmission of TV One and Aaj News over violation of the media regulator’s code of conduct.
