Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has welcomed the reopening of the Torkham border after talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Addressing an Iftar party in the city, he said the issue of the Afghan refugees is a humanitarian issue and the people of Pakistan have been making sacrifices for their Afghan brethren during the last 35 years. He said that initially, the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan and now the US and NATO forces are occupying the country unlawfully. He said that peace is inevitable for Afghanistan.
He said that as long as the US and NATO forces remained in Afghanistan, lawlessness and terrorism can’t end in the region.
Baloch said that national unity and harmony are highly important in the prevailing situation. He said that corruption and the corrupt elements in the government and the opposition are the root causes of all trouble.
He said in the given situation, a heavy responsibility devolved on the shoulders of the chief justice of the Supreme Court and he should not wait for the agreement between the government and the opposition on the TORs. The chief justice should suo moto, set up a judicial commission and the commission itself should finalise the TORs in the light of the TORs proposed by the government, the opposition and the Supreme Court Bar, he added. With that, he said, the commission should decide the road map for an indiscriminate and ruthless accountability.
