Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi has said Pakistan has decided to construct gates at all major exit and crossing points along the border with Afghanistan to check unlawful cross-border movement.

In an interview with the state-run TV on Saturday, he said effective border management with Afghanistan is important to achieve the positive results of the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

He said Pakistan would construct gates with all required facilities on major seven entry and crossing points along the border with Afghanistan inside the Pakistani territory.

“No international law stops Pakistan from such construction as most of the countries in the world including US and Canada despite close and friendly relations have the border control systems.”

Answering a question, he said there is no need of any third-party intervention as Pakistan and Afghanistan being neighbours and close friends are in contact with each other and could resolve their issues bilaterally.

“Pakistan is hosting over three million Afghan refugees for the last three decades but now it has been decided that they will have to go back to their country.”
