PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly Monday through a unanimous resolution denounced US drone attacks in tribal regions and asked for transferring of the drone technology to armed forces of Pakistan. The resolution was moved by Awami National Party parliamentary leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour. Bilour, who also occupies a senior ministry in the cabinet, moved the resolution without taking his colleagues from Pakistan People’s Party into confidence.
Expressing sharp reaction, PPP’s Abdul Akbar Khan and other MPs from opposition parties said, “All of us are against drone attacks and we intended to move a joint resolution.” In this respect, they also expressed concern over attitude of Bashir Ahmad Bilour. However, after a heated debate, Speaker Kiramat Ullah Khan Chagharmati permitted Bashir Bilour to move the resolution. The resolution was unanimously adopted by the house. It may be mentioned here that it is the first ever resolution moved by ANP leader against US drones. For a long time, ANP leadership considered US drone attacks as fruitful.
Through another resolution, certain MPs from southern districts have demanded restoration of mobile telephone services in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts. Couple of days back, mobile telephone services were restored in Dera Ismael Khan and Tank districts after a period of around 18 months.
